Night Falls
A young adult fantasy novel in progress by EA Gonzalez
In NIGHT FALLS, Crown Prince Halloran of Faine discovers that the blood magic that protects his shining city comes with a terrible price—and a vengeful god has come to collect it, one soul at a time.
She comes in the body of a simple fen witch, promising healing. Her followers claim she can even raise the dead. In exchange, they merely have to cast off the protective, priceless flame stones bestowed by Faine’s mystics. Hal has spent enough nights in the dockside gambling dens to know a con when he sees one, and he sets out determined to expose the witch’s ruse. But at every turn, his investigation leads him not to the fen witch, but to Princess Nyria, the equally evasive, utterly infuriating ward sent to his court by Khalahad, their enemy to the east.
Just as Hal is beginning to trust Nyria, despite her endless lies, his city suffers an unthinkable attack that could have come only from Khalahad. It’s clear now why Nyria was sent to Faine, and the entire city wants to see her hanged. It’s the only logical conclusion, far more logical than the machinations of an enraged, bloodthirsty god. And it’s Hal’s duty to see it done.
But what is logic, or duty, in the face of love?
